French firefighters on six-week strike after record summer blazes

Firefighters in France are on strike over a lack of funding for essential emergency services. Their dedication was pushed to the limit in the recent wild fire episodes south of Paris and near Bordeaux. Short comings in the current system were highlighted by these extreme cases.
