MKBHD on the New A20 Pro iPad Mini
Marques Brownlee describes the two color choices as “annoyingly, slightly not black and slightly not white,” which is apt. He digs the acoustic display enough that he can imagine Apple bringing it to a future high-end iPhone (like if they do a big redesign next year for the 20th anniversary), but he says you can feel the whole iPad shake if you turn the volume up high enough. And, of course, he dings it for not having a 120 Hz display, and wonders where Apple even sourced a high quality OLED that doesn’t support 120 Hz. I think that’s the wrong question to ask. It’s not about the display panel. It’s the display driver, and ProMotion requires a display driver that’s enough more expensive that adding it to the iPad Mini would either raise the price even further or cut into Apple’s profit margins. It’s the driver, though, not the panel, in my understanding. ★
